NUTTING VIDEO ARCADES FLYERS MACHINE FLYERS

In 1971, Bushnell and colleague Ted Dabney formed Syzygy with the intention of producing a Spacewar clone known as Computer Space. The counter slip state machine technology which drove Computer Space was later patented and served as the core technology for all arcade video games until 1975 when microprocessors appeared on the scene and soon became the technology of choice. In order to keep the company alive while the machine was being prototyped, they also took on a route servicing broken pinball machines. Popular belief has it that Nolan Bushnell had built Computer Space, and that he had even moved his daughter out of her bedroom to finish it. This however is not correct. It was in fact Ted Dabney who built the machine in his home and it was his daughter who was relegated to the living room couch. Ted Dabney completed the prototype and Nolan Bushnell started to shop it around, looking for a manufacturer. They eventually reached an agreement with Nutting Associates, a maker of coin-op trivia and shooting games, who produced a fiberglass cabinet for the unit that combined a coin-slot mechanism. Computer Space proved to be too far ahead of its time and was a commercial failure. Though Computer Space enjoyed over US$3,000,000 in sales, Bushnell felt that the poor marketing of Nutting left significant sales on the table and decided that his next game would be licensed to a bigger manufacturer. Nutting Associates was an early arcade game manufacturer from Mountain View, California, formed in 1968 by Bill Nutting. They introduced a number of mechanical coin-operated games, starting with a quiz game known as Computer Quiz, and moving on to more common fair like shooting games. In August 1971, Bill hired Nolan Bushnell who had an idea to put a clone of Spacewar! in its own box. Production began by the end of the year on a run of 1,500 Computer Space games, but neither Nutting nor Bushnell considered it a real success and only 500 to 1,000 were actually sold. Bushnell then produced Pong, and originally offered it to Nutting, but demanded he be given an ownership stake in the company in return. Nutting refused, and Bushnell left to form Atari. When Nutting Associates later failed in 1973, Bill left the industry and went on to fly relief supplies in Africa. Nutting Associates went out of business in 1976. Their last title was an arcade game called Ricochet. Bill's brother, Dave, also worked in the video game industry, forming a consulting firm that produced many of Midway's games during the 1970s and early 80s. One of the rarest Video Arcade Flyers of all time is Computer Space which is also considered to be the very first Video coin operated games made. Through special arrangements with one of Canada's premier Coin-Op Distributor, we are pleased to offer you the worlds largest supplies of these and other Nutting original flyers. Note Original, we do not sell any photo copies of any of our flyers.
